For the past four decades, Prop Thtr remained a consistent incubator of experimental theater in the MidwestUnder the artistic leadership of Olivia Lilley, that devising and experimenting has continued. Prop Thtr’s focus has widened, challenging the notion that Theater is a ‘separate’ art form. Prop Thtr is at the forefront of reimagining theater for the American 21st century.
As a 501(c)3 not-for-profit, Prop Thtr is funded primarily through government grants and individual donors. As we move forward, we hope to set a new standard for working conditions for both artists and staff in Chicago’s storefront theater.
Your donation will be used for our most substantial commitments:
- Stipending our part-time staff
- Increase artist pay
- Renting production space
As we move forward, we’d like to:
- Hire a managing director, a development director
- Increase pay for our artistic director and executive director
Paying staff and artists is a crucial path we’re on: as we move through and figure out how to be an anti-racist and equitable theater, we want to make sure we have people who have the capability to be committed to intersectional, experimental thought and art.
